compiz-fusion-extra-plugin mouse left click only grabs doesn't select

okay so recently I installed the compiz-fusion-extra-plugin through synaptic manager and the install went great and all but afterwards when I left clicked on a contact in empathy it would only grab the entire empathy window instead of selecting my contact.

I'm hoping this isn't a newbie question but can this be fixed and has anybody else had this problem?

thanks for any feed back.
