When I click on an image thumbnail in the main browse box, (to highlight it), and then I click the "Edit Image" button at the top, - it doesn't display the highlighted image in the edit box. It displays a default grey picture frame (place holder).
Any ideas?
Also, are there better Gnome photo editors? I want something simple.
as for your editing problem, the image has probably been deleted from your f-spot files, usually found in the 'photos' directory.
I just tested this by importing an image into f-spot, checking to see that I could edit it and then going into the directory where f-spot COPIED the image and deleted it.
there was still a thumbnail image in f-spot but only got the gray picture frame when trying to edit it.
(original image still in my non f-spot directory)
pandanuma, Thanks for figuring out what was going on. Nice use of the scientific method.
I still don't know exactly what I did. But after reading your post I decided to clear the browse/"catalog" area of all the thumbnails. Then I imported a directory from my /home/photos directory and I was able to edit the photos.
My guess is that I moved a directory or renamed one of the directories. I vaguely recall doing something with the directories after I transfered the photos from the camera and imported to F-Spot. This would have changed the file path, and thus F-Spot reached down a file path that no longer existed.

With that issue out of the way, I sort of was able to do what I wanted to do with the photos, but it wasn't as good or as easy as with the Windows programs that I'm trying to give up. [$free Windows programs I might add]
Also I couldn't figure out how to resize in F-Spot so I had to use GIMP for that.
? Is there a way to "scale" or resize images in F-Spot?
glad I could help
f-spot is more of an image manager as opposed to an editor, so resizing does not seem to be an option
although if you export the image from f-spot there is an option to resize it but I cannot seem to get it to work...
for basic editing I use gThumb
I use gimp for the heavy editing
