Can't configure pdf printing

I have a problem printing pdf's. The page size is always about 15cm x 20cm, & the bottom line is cut off. In win there was an option controlling the size of the copy on the sheet, but none here that I can find. I have an HP 640C -- old but usually prints predictably. I have tried printing from ghostview, konqueror and with acrobat -- with which I actually got one good printout page, but after that one, it's small & cropped again. Seems not to be app related, but I don't understand cups at this point. Appreciate any ideas. Tx
