no of lvm's per VG


hi,

we have 4tb hdd attached with NAS server configured on CENTOS6, main purpose of this NAS is to storage for 3ESX server, 500 GB for each, for users another 500GB as samba shares. my confiusion is ,

No, LVM manages disk drives, so it's up to you how to partition your NAS server.

1 VG 'i.e. esx-vg', and 3 LV's for each server will be a good schema.

You don't worry about LVM failure as much as you worry about Hard Drive failures. You have to put your VG-s on a RAID (1 or 5 or 6 or whatever) because LVM doesn't provide data protection.

hi barghota,

thanks for your reply, so 1 vg is engoug for three lvm 's each esx one lvm ? right . k 'll do it, what about samba share, shall i create 4th lvm for it in same vg or, i create 2nd vg for samba share. does 500 GB lvm , so large and effects performance or it's k?
