problems with Ghostery anti-tracking firefox addon

Hi, I have been a user of the Ghostery addon for quite sometime, until I started watching my connections with iftop.
Even though I went into the Ghostery setup and disabled all reporting features, I was still seeing connections to ghostery.com. So I just removed ghostery all together, but I'm still seeing recurring connections to safe-browsing.ghostery.com.zentara.net. I used a Blocksite addon to block all access to *://ghostery.com*, yet I keep seeing connections. Do I need to completely wipe out my ./mozilla profile to get rid of these tracking connections?
Remember, Ghostery has been removed, and I restarted my browser. Can anyone offer a clue?

Try clearing your history:-

If that doesn't help I can think of two things.
Try looking through the about:config page and see if Ghostery can be deleted/removed that way.

To get to about:config open a new tab in your browswer and type: about:config. It will complain but to get into it you have to except the risk. Try looking through all of the entries and see if Ghostery is in there.

It that fails remove FF and than do a fresh install:-

I'm not sure if wiping out your ./mozilla profile is the answer. I'd read up on that first:-

Hi, thanks for the reply. I went into about:config and searched for the string "ghostery", then removed all strings containing it. Then I cleared my cache. Then after about 15 minutes all attempts to link to ghostery.com stopped. I have switched to Privacy Badger, which works much cleaner. Nice drawings by the way. :-)

yep, ghostery has been known to be spyware for many, many years.
apparently it still is.
but good alternative addons exist.

Hi, I am having good results with Privacy Badger, and also am testing DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials with good results.
Right now, I like Privacy Badger.

Just installed Privacy Badger on Firefox. It says

Code:
Privacy Badger detected 0 potential trackers on this page. These sliders let you control how Privacy Badger handles each one. You shouldn't need to adjust the sliders unless something is broken.
no matter which site I visit. Is it because Noscript and Ublock Origin is blocking the trackers before Privacy Badger ?
