Wine won't connetc to the network

I have installed Wine under Ubuntu 12.04, and added Firefox web browser. It doesn't connect to the internet, not even to the router (10.1.1.1). Nor does it recognise localhost (127.0.0.1). I can't find anything to configure it. I have no trouble connecting from Ubuntu. Where do I go from here?

Why are you running Firefox under Wine? It is already installed in Ubuntu and runs natively.

It might help if you explained exactly what you are attempting to do.

Thanks, but what I'm trying to do is run Firefox under Wine, nothing else. I'm aware it runs under Ubuntu - that's how I know the network connection works
