Unhappy Why does KDE and APIC hate me? ;'(

Hi,
I have a Home-built puter w/ this:
1.6ghz AMd Athlon 2000+
A7N266-VM motherboard ( se )
2x optical drives ( 1x DVD, 1xCD-rw )
1x HDD ( Maxtor 120gb )
Windows XP pro ~running now
NVIDIA Nforce2 intergrated gfx.
My problems are;

1.I installed Mandrake9.2 w/o a hitch.BUT when booting, it said that it was loading the APIC daemon, and then freezes. ( but going into interactive boot, then into gnome and disabling this worked ). Is there any "My-Puter" friendly way to enable this pleez?

2.When that first thing was shifted, I then decided to go onto KDE, as this looks SOOOOOOOOO cool... so i tried to log ino it. It comes up with that pop-up, an gets past the little icon w/ the spanner. It then goes to the "Intergrating Periperhals" bit...and the icon stops flashing, and the system inevitably hangs. I randomly press the keyboard, but all the CAPS-LOCK and other lights start flashing in a steady succession.

Is there an answer out there...can > U < keep my puter from pain,
If you can...pleez let me know...

Thanks.

isnt APIC advanced proggrammable inturrupt controller.

maybe there is something funky with your hardware that mandrake cant handle while probing or initializing.

I can tell you, if the system hangs on boot cause of this, maybe try compiling a kernel withoout apic support.

I though APIC was for like PNP devices and dynamic SCSI devices.

Dont take my word for it though.
I have Redhat9, installed it, absolutely no problem other than the fact that they left out a lot of stuff, LIKE THE SOURCE for the kernel Im us9ing, no big deal but what a peicce of shit CD they are selling. Stay away from SAMS PUBLISHING LINUX DISTROS THAT COME WITH BOOKS.

I should have just downloaded the isos, and burned them. which is what I will do.
