Ubuntu doesn't recognize wireless card on Acer laptop

I'm completely new to linux, and I'm having a problem with internet. Wired, it works perfectly, but Ubuntu7.04 does not recognize my internal wireless card on my Acer laptop. I'm pretty sure I need to install the NDISwrapper. I'm not sure how to do this though.

Another problem that just came up is when I try to go into the add/remove programs, it comes up with an error, and that I should check for broken files through synaptic. When I do this though, it doesn't really do anything, and doesn't fix the error that comes up in the add/remove program window.

Can anyone help at all?

For the wireless question, I have written a reply in this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...=1#post2764656

It's not extremely specific, but might stear you in the right direction.

As for installing ndiswrapper: Be sure to enable all repositories in Synaptic, and search for it. Tick it off and apply changes. It might be that ndiswrapper needs other small programs or libraries to run, but with Synaptic, it finds these on its own. You just have to answer yes when asked to install these other programs or libraries.

I can't say what's wrong with Add/Remove programs for you, as I am not as tech-savvy of GNU/Linux as I would wish. However, I had the same problem in both 6.06 and 6.10 myself. After looking through the list of programs in Synaptics with all repositories enabled, I decided it was a little more hassle finding what I wanted, but it was a lot easier getting programs suiting me. I seem to remember that Add/Remove worked for a few programs, then I installed something (don't remember what right now), and after that, it wouldn't work anymore.

I started right where you're at now, and I haven't gotten a lot further, but this is my experience. I am hoping that I have helped you somehow, as little as it may be.

ubuntu broadcom wireless

I used this post to get my Acer Broadcom wireless up and running.
For whatever reason I had to do the recommended process twice for it to work, but now no more Microshit! Yeah.

Check it out.

Well, I got wireless working, at least partially. Turns out I didn't need the ndiswrapper...Anyways, now it has a random problem. After connecting to a wired connection, then switching to wireless, it has a pretty strong connection. The second time after this, the strength goes down again, and the third or fourth time connecting to wireless, it shows no signal. After putting wired in and out again, it works fine, but does the same thing. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
