Thunderbird portable - USB disk full- can't send, can't delete....

Hi guys,
Have Thunderbird Portable on a thumdrive that said I can't send/receive due to disk being full. Trash is empty, can't compact. Trying to delete a couple of big emails so I can use it but I can't because the disk is full! Catch 22 there. Is it possible to save the emails on the computer, be able to identify the emails I want to delete and put the file back on the thumbdrive? Or....? Thanks for any help. Oh, i't's a 2GB thumbdrive and all it has on it is Thunderbird Portable on it so there isn't anything else on there to delete to make room.
Clay

Why not just copy over the lot to your hd, run it from there to delete stuff, and copy it back to the thumbdrive.
Make two copies when you begin, one for editing, one for backup.

I wasn't sure if the portable version would run on the harddrive and back to the tdrive again. Just wanted to be sure as I had firefox port. and firefox on a computer and corrupted both of them because of an update running while I had the portable version running. Appreciate the help...that was fast! thanks...
