So I see Linux Mint has a major issue with Ubuntu and Snap

I'm a little concerned with Mint's description here:
Quote:
This is in effect similar to a commercial proprietary solution, but with two major differences: It runs as root, and it installs itself without asking you.
Sounds like it's no longer "effectively" open-source,and that bothers me.
Really into transparency, as I have major trust issues with ALL aspects of the modern world.

Could you provide some context for the quotation above. By itself it communicates very little. For example, what is "this"?

Angry Linux Mint Group.....

......... I for one am glad that the Linux Mint group brought this to everyone's attention. This seems like a sneaky way to install software that is doing something different behind your back and because of it I'm not going to be installing software by the Ubuntu group. This is similar to the underhanded practices that Microsoft has done since before Windows 95 !!

So you should be happy with Clem's response.

My God, that's awful! I can't see any difference between that and the way Microsoft does things.

I have never used any of those modern universal packaging systems. What's the point of using Linux if you can't control your own system?

This is my opinion exactly.
