RHEL 5 internet connection when used as guest (VMware) on Windows 7 host.

I have RHEL 5 installed on VMware 6.0 and the host OS is Windows 7. My Host is connected to internet using a wireless connection and works on shared IP. Earlier when I had Windows vista as host I have managed to get the internet connection on the RHEL but do not remember how I managed it. Now I need help in setting the internet connection on RHEL. I have set up a NAT connection. But of no use. Please help.

If you installed VMWare correctly it should have created a network bridge which your VMs will use. Since you have selected NAT for that specific VM you need to make sure your eth0 is set to dhcp and try running a "service network restart".

Didnt understand "If you installed VMWare correctly". I was not asked for any set up options on the installation of the VM. Tried the service network restart and the eth0 is set to DHCP. Please let me know wether I can try anything else.

Hi, You need to very the settings of VM Instance you are running, at my setup NIC under VM Machine is configured as bridged and it's works like a champ.

So I would suggest you to change the NIC Setting as Bridged interface (Check on Replicate Physical network connection State) and then run "service network restart" command at shell under RHEL and see if still any issues.

Hi PKhera,

That didn't work for me. But I found a work around. All around in the blog sites I found that VM had developed NAT connectivity issues on Windows 7. So as a try downloaded 7.0.0 build-203739 and the issue is resolved now. So it was only a compatibility issue with the version 6. Thanks a lot for the help.
