modprobe isn't locating device modules

I just installed Gentoo. When I load it up, everything goes ok. Devices are located... etc... then as soon as I log in, I get all these messeges saying that modprobe was unable to locate the module for such-and-such device. It's a really long list.

I've tried re-installing my kernel and it didn't work. Would it have something to do with xfree and installing it wrong? Or what's the problem?

well it would sound like you are trying to load a module that you have not compiled. it won't relate to X, more how well you installed your system. the only modules that should get loaded are one that you should have deliberatley specifed in /etc/modules.autoload.
