I've searched for two days now, and haven't found anything usefull. But basically it says it all in the title. I can't even play tux racer.
It's not my comp..
nf7-s AMD
2500@2.4ghz 1.75vcore
1250 Mushkin level 2 pc3500 , in dual channel 1:1
9800pro ATi
SATA Seagate 80gb 8mb cache hd.
Fortron source 350W powersupply.
So now.. i figure although my 9800pro was detected fine, maybe it's the driver?
If so.. i downloaded the right one i needed from ATi , but cannot install it. I get some error while trying to install the RPM. ANy help would be rockness.
Well i am using KDE .. kaka becuase i'm a newb.
file /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 from install of fglrx-4.3.0-3.7.6 conflicts with file from package libxfree86-4.3-29mdk
That's when it yells at me.. of course i don't really know why becuase i'm a newb. :/
I used Check.sh to make sure i have the right version of 4.3
*edit I don't really understand RPM files i thought they were supposed to be easily installed.. sort of like a normal install file for windows.
Do i need to make something executable? Using the chmod command? I don't know shite so i'm sure i'll learn something from whatever happens.

Thanks for your help, i didn't see the force instructions for some reason. But.. it installed it correctly then i messed up which mouse i had.. and screwed myself for a good 30 minutes trying to get my mouse working again.
Although I went through all of that it didn't help any at all. In fact i'm almost scared i messed something up doing it. I guess ATi just doesn't care about Linux. Or.. Chromium and Tuxracer are coded only for Nvidia?
Whatever it is.. it sucks. I have no choice but to figure this out.
Even though your card is being detected are you sure the driver is being loaded, does
lsmod | grep fglrx
give you any results?
If so, does glxinfo show that direct rendering is enabled? If its not then your games are going to run like crap.
I think I saw somewhere in the mdk10 changelog that 3D acceleration was broken. Certainly doesn't work on my machine, but that might be the Radeon IGP...
Grep is just a pattern matching command, if you're not getting any results from that then try loading it manually with
modprobe fglrx
I don't know about the state of 3D acceleration in Mandrake, Entropius says its broken but you can try it anyway. Did you run the fglrxconfig utility, that should've enabled direct rendering for you. To enable it yourself look in the /etc/X11/XF86Config there should be section called "dri"... just uncomment that section and restart X. I don't think that the ATI driver wants dri compiled into the kernel, which is what caused problems for me.
kaka just 30 minutes fixing my mouse that was working. I did fglrxconfig and went through it and messed up what mouse i had. Then i had to prey and find the keyboard shortcuts to get my mouse back. Which i really didn't do too bad.
I did go through and do a few things from the other forum posts, but still no direct rendering. Obviously i don't know how to recompile my kernel/ get rid of ati driver's and reset all the drivers manually or I would try it.
Basically i just don't understand how unix is.. only becuase i've never used it. I'll get the hang of it.. just going to take some time.
I basically just shouldn't be afraid to try anything.. i can always reformat and go at it again. That's the only way i'll learn.
