Hmmmm... this is a 'tough one', but probably will turn out to be some 'basic glitch'
(like: [randomly...] no encryption, US, ?wpa_supplicant?, duplicate-of-enp3s0 subnet, ...)
Can you find the 192.168.x.y address this wifi has on another OS/device? (..0.y might be 'BAD' dup/sameSubnet! Is enp3s0 CABLE plugged into SAME routerBox which provides wifi???)

./wireless-info (better yet, rerun&post after rebooting withOUT wired-ethernet connected!)

by: ./wireless-info [OR even, without chmod: sh wireless-info]
THEN you can plug in cable & post it, OR even reboot [w/cable] and that .txt file will still be there [with info from being run withOUT enp3s0 cable] ! )

BUT I don't know this 'stuff' well enough to solve it, sorry.

no I've been trying to work with you and ardvark71 trying to solve the wireless connection problem first because i have plans on using this laptop for amateur radio aka ham radio in June for the arrl field day doing psk31 but need to get the wireless working so i can use my phone as a wifi hot spot to log my contacts online

I'm sorry, at this point, I don't know what else to suggest. You can either work through the other suggestions I offered in post #28 or see if someone from the Boise LUG can offer you a hand.

Another suggestion would be to take your system to a reputable computer repair shop or technician where you live that has experience in diagnosing Linux issues.

IF you boot withOUT the ethernet cable, by any chance, does wifi work then?
(can you find the 192.168.x.y IPaddress which anything else gets -from wifi-?)

Assuming not, could you run that `wireless-info` script again,
after this reboot -withOUT ethernet cable plugged in-.

Then, you can plugin the cable (give ethernet a moment to come up, or just reboot)
and then, carefully copy&paste the new (&complete) .txt output (in new post)
(that is, the .txt from the script run after fresh boot, *with no internet access*,
even tho enet is now in use. Of course, here, don't run the script a 2nd time, which would overwrite the .txt file just captured above, with no enet cable and no internet.
The .txt file, of course, 'survives' a reboot; `ls -l` will show that via time)

Hopefully, this will provide enough clean&precise data for someone to see what is happening with the wifi
(without the enet=cable 'in the way').

I've tried that at least a dozen times ok so here's the 65 million dollar question would i be better off trying a different distro ? and what about mint/cinnamon or a distro that would work with a samsung nc10 netbook when. I got up this morning i found that there were updates so i ran them in hopes that they would fix the problem but they didn't fix the problem sense i'm not a programmer and the other part for these 2 questions is i'm on a fixed income i need to keep the repairs cheap as possible. and I've tried to get a hold of the Boise Linux user group but for some reason their web page won't let me in if you know someone in the group could you pass on my e-mail to them here it is wiskey2755@gmail.com thanks

If you're going to try Mint, I'd recommend Debian Edition, otherwise you may find that Mint is no different than Ubuntu. They start as equivalents, I believe Mint still is a derivative of Ubuntu. However Mint DE is obviously from Debian.

I'd live boot off a thumbstick to see if it can recognize the WIFI adapter.

Please also do not put your email within threads.

OK jjanel and ardvark71 just so that you know i have finally solved my wireless problem by going to lubuntu 16.10 and everything seems to working great a person from the Linux Boise users group suggested that i try an older Linux version and now i'm starting to load software i'd really like to thank you both for your help you two have been very good at helping me understand how this Linux software works thanks again Lonnie aka KB7PLN
