light alternative to gedit

Hi All,

Looking for light alternative to gedit (which doesn't require all the gnome libraries etc. to run). Required features:
GUI
standard keybindgs (ctrl-c,ctrl-x etc., no emacs/vi-ish cryptic combinations)
highlights current line
tabs
spell checker
respects --geometry option from CL

medit does everything but excpet the --geometry thing.

Install wine and run notepad . Not sure it does spell check - but then notepad++ does I believe.

You can try Leafpad too..it doesn't have a spell checker but it is VERY light.

AFAIK Mousepad doesn't provide current line highlighting, and doesn't appear to take any CLI options other than a filename (I tried with --help, -h, and --geometry=1024x600, and they all got treated like filenames ).

IMO for basic text editing (i.e. not code or big professional/academic documents) it works, but it's not exactly rich with features.

Thanks everyone for replying.

I will be editing code and documents so I need something which is more than bare bones.
Gedit is rich with features but also bloated (and no --geometry CL option).

Kwrite is Kde dependent, I like it more than Gedit, it has got all that spell checking and highlighting, indentation, auto completion etc.

It's really more of an IDE, but Geany might be another candidate (at least for code). It doesn't take the --geometry option, but it does have other things like syntax highlighting, current line highlighting, code folding, etc. Although that might just make it as big as gedit (doesn't depend on GNOME though from what I can tell).
