Issues when running 'sudo yum update'

I ran a 'sudo yum update' and there were many packages that needed to be updated. However, I got the following errors, and I'd like to resolve them. Is this maybe some problem with my yum configuration? Your help is much appreciated on this! Thanks.

Code:
$ sudo yum update

 You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
 You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

The EPEL repo is usually not compatible with the Rpmforge repo
so far concerns vlc. ( And some other packages.)

Suggest : Disable the 'epel.repo', if you want to update vlc.

Also : It can be a good idea the exclude vlc from automatic update.
Add a line : exclude=vlc* , to /etc/yum.conf
(The wildcard ( * ) is important. Should not be omitted.)

( Such "specials" can be updated manually : # yum install vlc
Or : # yum update vlc ).

Not All RPM Files are Equal.

RPM is trying to put together the package for your (update)from repo versions of RPMs that are not interchangeable. It won't work. You need to build a package from RPMs that will work with each other. You can remove Vlc from updates permanently from editing a file or just not update it with arguments form your update command. If Vlc works well with CentOS just be happy and don't concern yourself with updating it. These un-interchangeable repos could cause trouble down the line but I would not worry about it myself. I don't have the info on how to do this in my head but it should not be too hard of a search. CentOS repos are a little tricky.
