Ok look, since I'm new to linux I'm constantly searching for a lot of random stuff. And unfortunately I try a lot of the stuff I find without even knowing what I'm doing. So here's my problem: I was looking at commands that had to do with user accounts. And this in particular was about user accounts being able to access other accounts. So here's what I typed: (as root in a konsole)
ch /home
chmod 700 -R *
(Then being the idiot I am, I started screwing around with the chmod command and I typed)(terminal is my user account)
chmod -x terminal *
chmod -r terminal *
Then for some reason (now that I think about it I don't even know why I typed this, I typed) :
!= write
After that, it wouldn't let me su back to terminal, it came up with something that said bash, although I can't quite recall. When I tried to reopen my konsole, it gave me an error like this:
KDEInit could not open 'konsole'
I logged off and back in and it gave me this error:

The following installation problem was detected while trying to start KDE:

No write access to $HOME directory (/).

KDE is unable to start

Reboot, login as root and fix all the permissions you messed up.

what do I type?

I don't know what I need to change the permissions back to, and I don't know what those errors are.

Can someone please help me?

I nearly did a similar thing with a few new accounts I'd set up for my sisters, and first time loading them KDE bitched for one, so I temporarily restored the default permissions, and now after a few logins the accounts work fine with 700 permissions. Silly mistakes...

How do I set up default permissions?

I was wondering too... what permission settings would be good for an account that just wants to access the internet and not be able to do anything else?
