How can I remove it?

Well just reformat your hard disk, you can do this through the windows installer, I assume you want windows on there.

While any linux user knows how to remove windows, it's amusing to note that the opposite is not necessarily true

Missed - Its a second hand laptop - I usually get nervous when I hear partitions.

Netbooks have a key you press to bypass the default boot device. You need to tell your netbook which device to boot from and then select the external USB drive that has bootable windows install disc.

The instructions to boot off other devices should be listed in the manual of your netbook. If you don't have it at hand, then do a google search on the netbook model you have.

If it is a second hand laptop, how come you didn't ask the previous owner "Linux User" to remove it for you? FISHY!!! Anyhow, try reinstalling Windows. what netbook brand and model do you have?

Why is that Fishy ?

I also have not idea what's "fishy" about it. Besides, you don't "uninstall" an OS, you write overwrite it with a new one. If you want to install Windows, is makes no difference whether the drive is blank or already contains an OS such as Linux.

You're showing wins xp logo is that also on laptop?
If so use xp install cd, select repair, choose option for wins xp & issue command "fixmbr".

I bought the machine ( SW-E700) and used it occasionally

It has a good range of software but all I want is a simple browser on the move (nothing else)

I have nothing against Linux but am a Windows person

Also I do not have an external USB CD ROM but have a 4GibB USB SAN DISK

The SW E700 is an old slow machine so is Linux best for just browsing and which browser?

Can I get rid of the word processing, email, ie everthing except the Wireless connection and a browser

I suggest you leave Linux, if it's running smoothly. It's a pretty old machine, XP might not work as fast. Besides, Linux is far more secure and stable system, especially if you use it for internet browsing.
I'm not sure your machine supports booting from USB Flash, so you might need an external CD drive, if you decide to install windows. (you might want to double check that).
Of course you can remove all the things you don't need. But be sure not to remove essential things. As a starter find the terminal and type "uname -a" (without the quotes, of course and post the output here. We'll figure out what to do next.

I read some infos about SW-E700, look like it was shipped with embeded Linux...

Use it as this, I don't think you can make it faster
