Double suicide is tricky. What I've always recommended is triple suicide:
1) Take lots of prescription pills. It helps if you melt them in water and dilute them in orange juice.
2) When you start feeling tired, go up to the rooftop with a knife. The effect of the pills will make you less woozy as you cut you wrists. REMEMBER: Cut from the inside of the elbow to the palm!
3) Try to hang onto the ledge. It is SO much easier than jumping off. Don't worry- as you pass out from the pills (and blood loss), you'll lose your grip and fall earthward.

Good luck. Leave a note so that the neighbor will post and tell us how it went.

You may have to do a clean full install. Windows XP uses a bootstrap process that then loads a program called NT_loader. The NT_loader program is usually placed somewhere in the middle of the hard drive. Your abortive Linux install may have over written that section of the hard drive and rendered the computer unbootable.

Give this link a try for your one last attempt before doing the re-install of windows.

http://www.computerhope.com/boot.htm#71

I would also suggest that you try a more stable version of Linux after you have re-installed XP.

I am using Conectiva 10 in a dual boot with Win2k. Please remember that Windows likes to have a hard drive all to itself and it prefers to live in a hard drive named C:

Linux also likes to have a hard drive all to itself but it doesn't really care what you call the hard drive.

If you are going to dual boot from the same physical disk. You have to partition the disk so that there are two seperate logical drives.

One called C: for windows

And one called L: for Linux.

I believe that there is a partition tool on the UBCD. I suggest that you use that to create the new partitions for the logical drives.

Goodluck,

Thorn

If all else fails you can ask the people in this forum for help http://p090.ezboard.com/btotalseminars

They are primarily A+ & Net+ windows techies may be able to help you with your problem.

mannn look at one thing: do you have a bootable windows xp cd ?? if you do, put in in your drive and boot your pc.

So, after all that normal process youll be asked to choose among "install windows xp" ,
"repair a previous installation" or "quit"
Choose "repair the installation">

so the prompt asks to choose what installation of windows you want to repair. type the number that appears with the name of the installation. for example:
"1 C:\WINDOWS" you should type 1

type the admin' password.

when you get in the prompt, type FIXMBR

your MBR should be clean now, try reinstalling your boot loader from a bootable linux cd or floppy.. I recommend Grub

tried it already :-(

i might end up just reformatting hda (the windows one) since most of my important files were moved earlier... i was thinking 15gb for each (win and lin), that smart? hdb would be one for storage only.

remember to partition the drive correctly and install windows first then install linux because linux has the better boot loaders.

Good luck

just a hint (if you think it worth):
try installing your windows first as thorn said, and then try to create a partition just for your windows, and another for the programs and backups.

it'll make recovery and backup easier and less long next time...
