help find distro without window edge snapping

I have tried all settings options to disable the windows snapping feature in Ubuntu, to no avail. I despise this feature, and I know there is a distro for me that allows me to control where my windows are placed on the screen. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks so much.

It's not a distribution setting, it's a Desktop Manager setting (Kde, Xfce, Gnome etc)

That's a desktop / window manager quirk. And it can be toggled OFF (ON by default) in many cases. I use cwm and it doesn't do that stuff.

What desktop environment are you using?

Well, in Linux Mint Cinnamon, it's considered something called "Window Tiling" which you can easily disable.

A seemingly relevant Ubuntu question (albeit 5 years old)
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1543...ndows-in-gnome

Quote:
For Ubuntu 17.10 it actually takes a few steps, and you need to do all of them for success:

Use dconf-editor and navigate to org/gnome/mutter

Look for edge-tiling and move it to OFF.

Click on edge-tiling and a new window opens.

In this window, set "Use default value" to OFF

Look at the bottom where it asks you to save, do that:

I am using Ubuntu 16.04. The desktop is the default - Unity (I think).

problem solved

I downloaded Unity Tweak tool and the dreaded window tiling has stopped. I'm not sure how I missed this in the hours of searching I have already spent. Thank you all so much for your help.
