Also, you can install a "virtual machine" on one system (eg Linux), and then install other OSes (including Windows) in the virtual machine. Search here at LQ--and on Google--for--e.g. "dual boot", "multi-boot", "virtual machine", and "virtualization" I think this has alread been stated but: Some things will work in WINE and not in CrossOver Office--AND vice-versa. |
Not sure, but the last time I tried to get a guest virtual machine to play games it did not work so well. The graphics were horrible(with vmware tools installed). May or may not work it's been awhile since I tried. And by the level of experience the OP is displaying I highly doubt they would be able to compile the application or it's needed patches in some cases.

there is no 3d-hardware acceleration in a vm :(, only vmware fusion can do that and its for macs only :(

Yeah, i was about to say you can't play games using virtual machines!
Why are you trying to run the game on linux anyways? why not just get a computer with windows and save yourself the hasstle? |
I would opt for vmware if the game is non-3d, although it may be a bit more challenging to install for a new user. That's a bummer that it doesnt currently work with wine though.
Wine installation is really easy if you use the package manager that comes with your distro. For example, I use Fedora Core 5 which uses yum. You could just do "yum install wine" at a command prompt and that would have taken care of it for you. I'm sure this is the case for distros that use apt-get. |
ok ok ok i get it now :)
