Cd player doesn't work or resolution is wrong

I have installed to different distros, suse 9.2 pro and Ubuntu 5.4
I use an m audiophile 2496 soundcard and have problems with the sound in Suse, I can play mp3s but no CDs. Ubuntu has perfect sound, but I can't set the resolution correctly it won't bundge from 800 x 600. I have not realy got to grips with either of these issues... Any suggestions?

For playing audio CDs, you will need to have an analoge cable connecting the CD-Drive to the sound card.

For graphic settings in Ubuntu, do following as root:

With Suse it's something with patenting rights.
Update your multimedia softs from packman site and you'll play everythng

I though SuSE had patent problems playing MP3s, not audio CDs ... but sonofamre stated that he can read MP3 files ...

None of the CD player programs I have tried could play with digital audio extraction, I don't have an analog audio cable connected from my DVD drive. But luckily there is XMMS. It works fine, you just have to choose Open Location and enter the mount point for the drive you are using. CDDB can be enabled from preferences in the CDDA input plugin settings.
