u might need to get into the bios and change the booting order so cdrom is first.make sure u do a checksum of the iso.u might also need to reburn the iso at a slower speed.

after the previous suggestion, if you still ahve problems
- you can check that the checksum is correct
- you need to be sure that you burnt the iso correctly
that is you can see many files on the cd, not one
file called somtheing.iso

I can see many files on the cd. I changed my bios to boot from cd first then the hard drive. What kind of result should I see when running the md5sum from cmd line?

Hi, guys,
I can boot Suse DVD from CD drive. I installed SuSe on my PC and laptop without any problem. But when I downloaded the Debian ISO and bured it to a CD,(I can see there are quite a few files and folders in the CD. )it did not boot as expected. The screen message was showing it tried to find DHCP( It found it.) but did not receive boot filename. Then it said the boot failed and asked me to insert sysem disk. Please tell me what stupid simple step I was missing. thanks.

BTW:
For those guys don't know how to change the boot sequence, try the following:
1.Restart the PC.
2.Hit F2 or Esc or Del (depends on your system setting) during the booting period. Enter the Setup mode.
3..Change the first boot device to CD-ROM. Save the change and reboot the PC.

Hope this helps.

Here is a guide to checking iso (after download)
http://www.linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/verifyiso.html

<<Once the md5sum program has run, and it will take a few minutes to run on a 640 megabyte file, a 32 digit md5sum will be generated. This sum should be exactly the same as the listed md5 sum for the specific iso you downloaded>>

Looking how to enter your bios, see
POLL how do you get into your bios
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ight=poll+bios

oliver37027 welcome to LQ
I do not know Debian, sorry I cannot help.
My only suggestion is you unplug your modem cable
when installing. See if it makes any difference
(it should not find the dhcp server, and would not try
whatever it is trying). But it is a wild guess
