Unhappy Can't install Ubanto desktop

I crashed my brand new 32 bit vista OS. I wanted to install a linux system. I tried Ubanto 9.10 32 bit desktop, but my comp kept asking for the windows Cd & would not allow the installation of the Ubanto CD. Help!

Did you burn the iso from ubuntu the right way? as iso, not as files.
Does the CD boot?

Live...

Have you either entered the BIOS Setup and changed the boot order to select the CD-ROM as the First Boot Device or are you using a one-time boot key at POST to select the CD drive so that the BIOS chooses the linux CD?

From your posting, this does not seem to be the case. You can press the Pause key as the POST screen splash appears to freeze the process and read what keys to press for Setup or a one-time boot.

When the live-cd boots, you might key down the menu and run the check function to see that the live-cd is good enough. Otherwise, boot it live.

As already mentioned, the live-cd has to be burned as an image file or it will not boot.

There is a difference between burning an ISO as an image and a data CD.

An ISO contains the raw bit-by-bit data that should be burned to the CD. It should be burned as an image. Windows XP cannot do this without third-party burning software. Windows 7 (maybe Vista, haven't tried) CAN do this, though.

If you burned it as a data CD containing an ISO file, that won't work.

And I think you meant Ubuntu, not Ubanto.
