Not likely but anytime you are modifying your bootloader or partitions it is best to be on the safe side and do a backup if you can.

There is no Windows system on that disk. End of story.

uhuh.....well...where did it go? should i just get a windows disc and install it to a small area of my partition like i had before? does it install as easily as ubuntu did?

You said in the initial post you had wiped the disk. That would explain it.
Might also explain the lame layout the installer chose.

You could use wine if you just want to run windows programs - might work, might not. To (re-)install Windows you'll need a disk and some free (unallocated) space on the disk. Personally I'd just use a gparted liveCD and move the start of the Ubuntu partition to free up some space - 20, 30 Gig say. Then install Windows, then fix up grub - see here for that.
Or you could just wipe the disk again, install Win7 then Ubuntu - it'll handle all the dual boot setup for you.
