burning red hat iso's with nero + xp

hi,
i have downloaded the 3 red hat iso's from redhat.com and i have checked them with md5sum and they r all ok. I have searched the net but have been unable to find any comprehensive document on how i burn these iso's in nero so that i can use them as boot cd's. (im using nero 5, win xp)

Can anyone pleae point me in the right direction ? Also they are WinRAR archives - does this mean i have to change them before i burn the iso image ? Normally i would spend more time reseraching but i lose my internet conection tomorrow and linnux is my learning challenge for the summer, if i can only sort this stage out then im on my way !!

Hey,

It appears the steps to make the CD bootable have already been handled. I had no problems booting right off the CD after burning the ISO files with Nero.

ok thanks very much.

i have just one more small problem, the second disc has a iso.tgz extension. If i try to decompress it withwinrar i get a diagnostic error 'cannot create'.

Any ideas on how to handle burning this disc please ?

I think you may have gotton the wrong disc.

i have got the shrike-i386-disc2.iso but it is the only one for the 3 that has an .tgz extension. i burnt the other 2 discs with nero staright off since they did not need decompressing.

I have tried to open this disc2 with 7zip, power archiver, winzip and winRAR. All report failings except power archiver which just gives me a blank directory called shrike etc . iso. I am downloading the disc again in case it has been corrupt but since the checksum values were the same i cant see this is the case. But i am unable to burn it as an iso while it still has the tgz extension.

If i have the wrong discs could you please elaborate, i am desperate to sort this out as i am about to move house and as soon as i have it sorted i can go !!

what I mean is that it shouldn't be tarred and gzipped. ISO's are already compact disc images and I don't think there is a tar equiv in M$. You should d/l the disc again and make sure the file ext is just iso.

If you find that you cannot get this done before you go I will happily mail you free of charge a complete set for RH9. Email me thru this site with an address. If you are leary about giving your address to a stranger (who could blame you) send me the address of your work.

that is what i thought. When i see the links the disc 2 says only shrike-i386-disc2.iso but when viewed as a download the complete name has the tgz extension. if i remove the extension i can burn it but why it is there to strat ith i don't understand. Thanks very much for yor genourous offer, maybe i will take u up on it but i really want to get to the bottom of this now (u know what it is like). Ill email the peeps @ redhat and see what they have to say

ok - thanks to everyone (espially bignate -cheers dude). I just deleted the .tgz extension and burned the disc and it seems to work fine. I guess its an extension that was added on by windows xp but im surprised none else has had the same issue.
