Looking for virtual machine that listens for ports

I am trying to set up windows 98 in qemu under ubuntu. I have windows 98 set up in such a way that it can act as a telnet server and can "answer" incomming telnet connections. Now, all I need is a way to make qemu listen on a port. I googled around and found a trick that will not work in my case. The trick being to use a script to launch qemu when a connection is made. This won't work because I have to have other software in Windows 98 running.

The only thing that I found that is similar to what I needed is Dosbox had the ability to listen on a port. But that doesn't help me because I'm running Windows 98.

Is there av way to make qemu list on a port or is there another vm that can listen on a port?

I don't know QEMU, but with all VM platforms it is not the VM host which listens on a port. It is the VM guest which needs to listen on a port and provide a server function.

You have to set up a bridged network adapter for the VM guest. In that way the VM guest's NIC will be connected to your LAN, get an IP address, just like a physical machine connected to you LAN.

If you set up a VM in VirtualBox then the network adapter is NAT-ed by default. Then you can go from the VM guest to the LAN but not from the LAN to the VM guest. In the VM guest settings you have to set up the NIC in bridged mode. I am not sure what is the default for QEMU. I am sure QEMU offers a similar choice for NIC configuration.
