Question Linux box can't see linksys router

I have a linksys wireless router. I'm runnnig IP MASQ on my linux box. DO I have to do anything special to get the linux box to recognize the router? I tried assigning an IP to the router and updated the rc.firewall file to reflect the router ip but something is missing!

If I try assigning the same IP (that I assigned to my router) to my windows box than everything is fine.

One thing I'm not sure of is all the boxes on my lan go by:

192.168.12.XX

I assigned my router 192.168.12.50 because I figured it had to be in the same pool as the other boxes on the lan. Was this a mistake? If so can I have a different IP in my MASQ and still have it work?
