After a 4.18 kernel upgrade yesterday I lost the network icon as well as internet access, WiFi is gone.
When I connect the ethernet cable it does not get detected either. I had installed GParted but funnily enough it does not launch anymore.
I have Mint 19.1 XFCE is dual boot with Windows. Before the problem I could see all the Windows files (NTFS), now I can't anymore; a USB stick is not detected.
Some other things that have disappeared and that I am discovering bit by bit:
* Synaptic
* Rubbish bin

I tried
Code:
sudo service network-manager stop
rm /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state
service network-manager restart
No result.
I cannot believe I have to do a fresh reinstallation. The computer is working fine in that I have access to my files and can use them. When I use the live USB stick the network is visible & works fine, Wifi included.
Any suggestions?

I'm afraid that is not related to kernel upgrade. Probably power was lost or something damaged. You need to check the logs (most probably in /var/log).
