I am curious to know as all carriers are not equal. For me, the last android upgrade was lollipop on my lg volt from virgin mobile.

And android nougat on my htc one A9 from boost mobile.

I noticed a pattern that higher priced phones get more considerations to cheaper phones.

My 2 last phones have been Nexus - because either I can get the monthly updates from Google, or I can flash the phone myself. Lots of options out there. No need for the vendor eye-candy in my case.
My other half has a Motorola - similar story to you; hasn't been updated in forever.

Google phones are great for android upgrades. The only caveat is they are pricey. Much appreciated for the reply syg00

The version update happened sometime late last year, I think.

From what I've heard on some of the podcasts I listen to, I gather that the biggest variable in updates is the phone's manufacturer. As manufacturers typically customize Android, the manufacturers must also customize version updates; some are more willing and more prompt to do so than others. Unfortunately, I can't provide citations. Those podcasts are long deleted.

It hasn't been all that long surprisingly. Upgraded my Droid Turbo 2 to Android 7.0 about 6 months ago, December/Jan timeframe.

Google calls it fragmentation. These manufacturers delay the android upgrades in hopes you get tired waiting and buy a new phone.

That is great. My htc one A9 got upgraded to 7.0 in December of 2016.

Google may have a point. I gather that a lot of manufacturers/carriers expect customers to buy new phones every two years or so.

Me, I use the phones until they stop working (battery stops taking a charge &c.). My HTC One is now about three years old and works just fine, thank you. It does everything I ask it to.

When it dies, my next phone will also be an HTC. Every Smartphone I've had has been an HTC and I have no reason to change. HTC has been good to me.

As an aside, my girlfriend has a Samsung. AFAIC, its interface is a confusing mess.

we have (in our family) two samsung galaxy a5, and those upgrades come quite randomly: once on this or that, next time in the reverse order, but always 2-3 month later or earlier.

My Verizon Samsung S7 Edge has been updating constantly. What version? I am not sure. I'll check now. I am pretty much a phone/android ignoramus. My brain barely can handle driving Gnu/Linux.

My previous samsung was one of these. Battery was easy to change on it. But like all good serviceable tech . It went the way of the dinosaur. Who wants to buy a phone that the battery can be changed by a 7 year old?

Living in the wide expanses of West Texas desert with no cell phone tower coverage. My phone plans are determined mostly by that one factor. I don't live in urban civilization like other forum members here do.

My Samsung Galaxy S6 Active got updated to nougat about a month ago. My wife's Motorola Z Play about 2 or 3 months ago.

Last update was sixth May 20017 with 6.0.1.
Bit annoyed Blackberry havn't 7 out yet but happy that things work.

I have a cheap phone (brand Plum) I bought last year after my previous one was stolen. It has Android 6.0 and it hasn't received any upgrades since I bought it in September last year (and being a cheap phone, I doubt it will ever receive any upgrades).

BTW; 273, if you're still using a cellphone in 20017, I'm afraid you're using a seriously outdated device .

Indeed, running Android 6.0.1 makes it so old I should throw it away, especially since Android 7 may only be released in a few months...
Having a pathetic, old, qwerty hardware keyboard as well as the slimy screen is pretty pathetic too.

I was referring to the year you mention in your post; since it is 18,000 years in the future, cellphones won't probably exist anymore by that time. But yes, my phone also has Android 6.0 and it's pathetic really (not only for the software version, but also because the phone itself is not of a good quality).
