Linux Mint won't boot past Linux Mint Splash Screen.

Hello all,

I was working thorough LFS and mounted my primary root partition to /mnt/lfs and mounted home partition to /mnt/lfs/home. This may or may not have cause Cinnamon to be unresponsive and I ran the 'shutdown now' command in the terminal. After 30-40 seconds of the computer getting stuck at the splash screen unable to shutdown, I cut off the power.

Now the system won't boot past the splash screen. I am able to get into the recovery mode and when I select fix broken packages this comes up:
rm: cannot remove /var/cache/apt/archives/partial/* no such file or directory
apt-get error while loading shared libraries: libapt-phy.so.p.12 cannot open shared object file or directory

When running fdsk in recovery mode, there is 0.2% corruption in the root partition. But the output stated it shouldn't cause any problems.

When selecting continue booting system, after some text scrolls past and a clean screen occurs, it features the following output:
Stopping light DM Display manager [ok]
Starting teamviewer remote control daemon [ok]
.
.
.
Starting teamviewer remote control daemon [failed]
Stopping teamviewer remote control daemon
And that is where the system hanged.

Is there any way to diagnose the problem/fix it or is it easier to reinstall linux mint. I have my home folder in a separate partition and backed up my software selection recently but there are still some pieces of software that were not installed from repositories and it will take a while to configure all the settings.

If I do have to reinstall, is there any way to keep my current programs?
Thanks

Just to make sure I understand clearly, are you saying that you mounted the system root and home partitions to a subordinate directory within another partition?

If that is the case, I can't see how that would work out well.

You might try booting to your Mint disc in live mode, then taking a look at the logs in /var/log, particularly mintsystem.log and boot.log. Perhaps they will cast some light on the where the boot is failing.

Frankly, though, if my understanding of what you said is correct, I have little optimism.

What I did was I moved my primary home partition and my primary root partition into the /mnt folder in my primary root partition. I think what I did was I mounted sda8 into the mount directory of sda8 and sda9 into the /mnt directory of sda8
