Dual Cards Nvidia & Radeon

Motherboard has 2 pciex16 slots.
OS: Mint 17.1
2 monitors running on AMD Radeon HD5670

When adding third monitor and 2nd card (Nvidia 6600GT), login prompt never appears on any screen. Switching to Console (CTRL-ALT-F2) has no result.

After pulling Nvidia card and reboot, what log file tells me the error?

I've heard a strange issue: the system has no idea which one is the first (main) and the second card and that means it could be changed several times during boot - and obviously that causes a lot of troubles. Probably setting up an Xorg.conf properly will help...

Hit [ESC] during boot,
2 monitors running on AMD Radeon HD5670 show boot.log messages e.g.
Code:
* Starting Mount filesystems on boot [ OK ]
until time x login expected, then 2 monitors running on AMD Radeon HD5670 blank plus blinking cursor upper left.

1 monitor on Nvidia 6600GT always blank (no blinking cursor).

AMD Catalyst Control Center installed.

Marking for installation nvidia-current-updates causes
Code:
To be removed
fglrx
fglrx-amdcccle
unsure installation for AMD card and Nvidia card

goal:
access console while 2 cards installed
or
access log file / error from 2 cards installed
or
link to setup instructions

Hi, You've worked out how to get the text on screen while the system is booting,

to get your monitors working you may setup the /etc/X11/xorg.conf

you can find some info here...

https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/x-config.html

http://www.x.org/wiki/
xorg.conf has sections for devices, monitor and display

You should be able to get all three monitors running

but you might have to pick 1 proprietary driver and one generic (like vesa).

A web search with the hardware config you want to use may bring up more results.

Hope this helps

regards Glenn
