I know this is a Linux board but there is also Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs, an official verison of Windows XP that was designed for low specification, old computers. But do note that it is insecure.

If you plan to up the memory best to check your hardware specs and make sure the machine will support it before purchasing.
