Screen tearing when watching videos or scrolling

Since putting Linux Mint Cinnamon on my laptop, I've screen tearing when scrolling down pages. I just noticed it too when watching a video.

What can I try to fix this?
Do I need to try a different driver, or just adjust some setting?

I have an Acer Aspire E5-575.
My graphics card in it: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 620 (rev 02)

nothing interesting in the xorg log.

please use CODE tags for code in the future (see my signature).

What sort of CPU do you have in that machine, how old is it generally?
(your intel GPU is Kaby Lake, same as mine, and I have no problems with it whatsoever)

I think cinnamon prefers hardware accelaration. please show us:
Code:
glxinfo | grep -iE 'rendering|opengl version'

This is a vdpau problem. and that is built into the mesa and the drm is built into the kernel.
Seems like mint has a issue. not you.
update your system ok.
I would install h264 ok and use firefox. this will help
h264 codec will be picked up by firefox and use it for the html5 videos.

Thanks for clarifying. Had this issue on my old laptop so had to give up using mint on it.
