I just bought Acer Aspire ES 15 with Linux OS. I am stuck at root@localhost ~]#.What command should I put to progress into GUI?

It would help when asking a question to mention your Linux distribution's name, as "Linux OS" does not really tell us much.

That said, you can try typing the following command:

When did it stop loading the GUI? Did it ever load the GUI?

Edit: Switch to a normal user account first. Why are you running as "root"?

If I may add: you have NOT made it clear that X.ORG has even been installed. Startx will only work if there is something X to start. You are going to have to add a LOT of detail before we can help you.

Please tell us how you got to this point, what versions of what distribution of Linux are involved, and what you have already done.

It runs with Linpus Linux.I am a complete Philistine in this OS.I've already typed the startx command and it was showing error in command.I have been provided with resource DVD but unable to read.Do I need to set user name and password before even proper installation?

I've tried
1.UEFI = stuck at root@localuser
2.legal= no hard drive to boot
3.changed boot priority order to usb CdROM to read DVD = no go

While you have given some more information, we still need more from you to be able to help.

Your reply seems to suggest that you have some kind of GUI installed. Am I correct?
What is this "resource DVD" you mention? The installation DVD for Linpus Linux?
Have you ever logged into this computer before? Is it brand new, just out of the box?

It's brand new ,running with Linpus Linux lite as mentioned in Amazon.Its accompanied with a resource DVD with products for Acer ES1-523

Since it's brand new, the easiest thing to do would be to return it as defective, and get a replacement. If you purchased it with Linux on it, the installation was obviously botched.

While Linpus is Linux...it seems specifically targeted to Acer equipment and has been called 'nagware' (since it will keep asking you to sign up for Acer support, etc.) If you did this Linux installation yourself, your laptop has sufficient power to run pretty much any version. I'd suggest Mint for a new user, or Ubuntu.

I'd suggest to return it to the retailer and purchase a laptop with Window or MacOS (whichever is your comfort zone). Or if you are feeling brave, you can try wiping the factory operating system and installing a fully-functional Linux distribution such as Linux Mint.

If you do a forum search on "Acer Aspire Linpus" you will find other many other users have had frustrating experiences with this product.

Could be running a gui on a different session. Maybe some key stroke command like ctrl-alt-1 or 5 or 7.

Being at root is not normal I'd think.

If this did arrive out of the box like that then you can consider returning it, fixing it or replacing the OS on it.

Apparently Linpus Linux lite as installed on some of the Acer laptops does not include the GUI. If you have network connectivity, and if Linpus is still based on Fedora, then perhaps the following will work:

First, I'd go with the suggestion of installing a distro of your choice. As stated by those above me, Ubuntu and Mint are great for the beginner. Truthfully, I still consider myself a newbie and I've been hanging around here for a couple of years.

Second, you can also try this command:

Sorry, but again you really need to RETURN THIS ITEM. If you bought it brand new (as you say), it is under warranty. Return it for a new one, and don't waste your time 'fixing' what should have worked out of the box.

If you bought a car and it didn't start, would you say "Well, I'll have it towed to a garage, and pay to get it repaired, oh well!", or would you call the dealership and get it fixed/replaced?

Hey, TB0ne, (but I don't write personally to you, just think about what you wrote):
it looks like - at least for me - this is a special distro, it is prepared to run on low-end Acer laptops. I can imagine (see post #8 and all around the web) the default behavior is just boot into command line and the user (customer) should do something to start GUI. I have never had that kind of laptop and I don't know what kind of instructions and/or user manual was "attached" to this article, but probably it is described there.

It is...and those particular units are known for being flaky from the factory, with that distro on them. I'm not discouraging the OP from doing whatever they want with their hardware, but (for me), if I purchased a BRAND NEW SYSTEM, and it didn't work as advertised...I wouldn't spend five minutes fixing it, but return it for one that did work.
