Allocate a fixed RAM address in kerner driver

Hello,

Currently I'm allocated kernel RAM space using:
__get_free_pages (GFP_KERNEL, Order); 2^Order = N pages

Is it possible to statically allocate a fixed physical RAM address ?

This is due to HW limitations.

Thank you,
Zvika

If there's hardware limitations, you would do better explaining them. There are some hardware folks here.

Normally, with security in mind, fixed addresses just don't cut it any more. They comprise your and other applications. It is possible to run random addresses in very small memory banks with primitive hardware.

which CPU?

well the whole point of new processors is to hide what is and isn't real (and newer: to hide what is and isn't liinear)

it's like having a hard drive and wondering if sector 0 in fdisk is really the real sector 0 on the platter: without allot of work your never going to know

------------------------

first say why your doing this. if your doing this for something un-necessary (not as you specificy real linear), then we need to address what you really need first

as far as security, i think that's off topic and don't agree

Hello,

The FPGA engineer found a solution.
Now I can use dynamic allocation.

Thank you,
Zvika
