Samsung Printer driver problems

I recently bought a Samsung SL-C1810w printer and ran the install script from UnifiedLinuxDriver-4.01.17. Since then I have been unable to run Virtualbox which kept giving this error:

Code:
Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_SUPLIB_OWNER_NOT_ROOT)
After several re-installs I found that the group & owner has been changed on /usr to 8070:9999 as well as on these files:
Code:
lrwxrwxrwx   1 8070     9999       12 May 17  2012 libtiff.so -> libtiff.so.3
lrwxrwxrwx   1 8070     9999       16 May 17  2012 libtiff.so.3 -> libtiff.so.3.6.1
-r-xr-xr-x   1 8070     9999   327085 May 17  2012 libtiff.so.3.6.1
The only thing I have done before getting this error was the printer install. After some googling, it turns out that there are a variety of issues with Samsung drivers. Sadly it seem that Samsung does not provide open source drivers for their printers.

Hope this help someone. This certainly wasted a fair amount of my time. It seems to be a good printer so far but I would be reluctant to get a Samsung printer again just for this reason.

Regards,
Stefan

Stefan,

Look here for Samsung printer drivers for your particular model:

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/SL-C1810W/SEE

There is a Linux printer driver tarball for your machine:

ULD_v1.00.35.tar.gz

Thanks. I did get the printer driver installed. I ended up using this website: http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/
This guy deserves a medal for his work.

My problem is that Samsung's driver has issues such as changing owner/group on /usr. I feel that if companies do not make their drivers open source, they should at the very least maintain it.

Yes, I did see that SULDR link as well.

Glad you managed to fix it.
