G'day!
I'll be installing Slackware 12.0 on my brother's computer this weekend, but he's got a CRT display about which I have found no information anywhere on the Web.
He's currently running Windoze 2000 on it and it's set to 1024 x 768 at 16K resolution, so I know I can set up the X11 conf file for that at least, but I'd like to see how far I can push his CRT without blowing it up.
Is there some clever Dick out there that can tell me how to either:
- get the maximum Vertical and Horizontal scan frequencies of the CRT from some structure in Windoze 2000 or:
- have Slackware somehow test for the maximum frequencies automatically, i.e. without doing it manually?

Any clever solution will be highly appreciated.

If Slackware includes the hwinfo utility, run this command:
/usr/sbin/hwinfo --monitor

That should tell you the maximum resolution and the vertical/horizontal frequency ranges.
