Focusrite 18i8 usb mixer interface board Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Toshiba S875D

Thank you in advance for reading this post. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I have a Toshiba S875D laptop running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I am trying to setup a focusrite 18i8 USB audio mixing board. It is not recognized under ALSA. Any thoughts?

Here is the output from some of the commands

You may need to create a .asoundrc file in your user directory. I'll find the link I have here & post it.

not sure why, but Alsa sound is not able to use the interface, but Audacity is able to use the mixing board just fine. Qasmixer and Also sound are not.

BTW, the HDMI is fine and plays like it should it is only the focusrite 18i8 that seems to give unexpected results.

i'll continue to play with it, as see what i can make it do.
