Can't Sync Palm in CentOS/RHEL 4.0

Hello,

I am unable to sync my Palm Zire 71 w/ jpilot, kpilot, etc. in newly installed CentOS 4.0 (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0). (I was able to sync fine w/ jpilot on Red Hat 9.) I think I know what the problem is, but I don't know how to fix it. The logs show the following when I hit the Sync button on the Palm cradle:

May 4 16:00:07 raptor kernel: usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using address 4
May 4 16:00:07 raptor kernel: visor 1-2:1.0: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter detected
May 4 16:00:07 raptor kernel: usb 1-2: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB0
May 4 16:00:07 raptor kernel: usb 1-2: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB1

A couple things here are confusing; first of all, the cradle connects via serial cable, *not* USB. (On RH9, it showed up as ttyS0.) Secondly, why is the kernel attaching it to *two* tty's? (ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1) What's even more confusing, the devices ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1 are not even in the /dev directory. I can't find them anywhere. Otherwise, I'd try sym-linking /dev/pilot to one of them.

So I'm at a loss. Surely it's possible to sync palm devices in RHEL - kpilot and gnome-pilot are part of the install. What am I missing here? (I have, of course, tried sym-linking to all the ttyS devices. (It kind of looks like it wants to sync on either ttyS0 or ttyS1. ie, no error msg from jpilot - it just says "Press the Hot Sync button now" and then just sits there forever. If I try on other tty's, it gives me an error...)

Any tips *greatly* appreciated!

Joe
