VNC server won't start

I'm using CentOS and I tried to setup VNC server to start. In the /etc/sysconfig/vncservers file I have this line

Code:

VNCSERVERS="1:root"

But when booting, the startup line says

Code:

Starting VNC server: 1:root               [FAILED}

I have checked everything that I know to but I can't figure out why it is failing, any ideas?

Can you start it manually?

If so, have you thought about building a start script? Anything you can do from the command line, you can do on a script.

If you can't start it manually then you have a problem with your VNC setup and need to fix that first.

I can't start it manually. I get failed there as well. What now?

Look at your error logs. They should point you in to something that needs to be tweaked in order for it to work.

All it says is that it failed. I was looking in /var/log/messages. Isn't this where it would be?

You'd have to post part of your log in order for me to help debug that.
I don't use VNC myself, so I am uncertain if there is a seperate log that it creates, but most programs write to the messages file. That is usually a safe bet to say error would show up there.

Some programs allow for debugging or verbose mode. Those messages can be very helpful for fixing problems as well. Might want to check if that's possible.

I just downloaded the newest version from real VNCs site and it isn't allowing me to install vncserver as a service. I need help.

I finally got it to allow me to connect, but how to I keep it from asking me for a password??
