Looking for a minimal distro that ONLY has Firefox

I've been looking and not finding what I need.

I need a completely stripped down distro that only runs Firefox as the browser. So basically, if it's not needed to run Firefox, then it's not needed/wanted.

There were older projects like xPud and Browserlinux, but these are all out of date.

I'm not against building my own if I need to, just don't want to re-invent the wheel if there is already something like this ready to go.

The idea is to run this on an older installed system inside a VM. I've just gotten sick of rebuilding my system when the distro goes out of date/no more updates. I'm tired of all these updates/new versions that just make things worse(in my opinion). The only thing I do online is use a browser. And yes, I'm aware that you should keep things updated/blah/blah, etc, etc. Don't care. I use my system to get work done, and it works fine for me. I just get tired of losing so many hours on an update or reinstall and then trying to rework it to my work flow. It's backed up and restorable as is very easily.

Really also sick of the constant changes to Firefox, but it's still better than Chrome.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them.

Thanx

I've never used this, but it comes up with a web search for linux distro with only browser (which also produces other hits which you may find interesting).

webconverger may still work OK.

Otherwise you'd almost have to build something if you don't want the minimal distros like Austrumi Arch antix or maybe even slax. OpenSuse used to be an easy way to build a JeOS.

Hadn't seen Porteus. "Just Browsing" last updated 2014. Tux Diary article from 2014. One link had a lot of raspberry pi stuff, so not useful. Other sites listed no longer exist, etc.

Trying to avoid anything based on something else because they always have way more than needed to run.

I guess what I'm looking for is something stripped down like a Docker Container type setup, but has a newer kernel, bare X and Firefox and that's it. Don't need any libs, programs, etc.

I found WebConverger earlier and downloaded it. Haven't tried it yet.

Even with SuSE Studio, it still adds all kinds of unneeded crap.

Firefox has even made pulseadio a dependency, but there are ways around that.

I would try using ReactOS, which is very lean, but it's still alpha and not very stable. Plus, I don't think they keep Firefox all the way updated. Will have to check.

I miss running DOS sometimes. Boot it up, and run your program. So simple. Even a minimal Distro has more than I need.

Shame that FirefoxOS couldn't have been something like this.

I would try ChromeOS, but don't want Chrome. Oh well.

Id suggest a Slackware minimal install with X and browser then made into cd/usb/ or hdd install try slackware live by alien bob
you could also install vector, salix or zenwalk and because gslapt tracks depends just keep uninstalling stuff till you get barebones and remaster.
Note Antix has a robust remastering app called isosnapshot so you can make custom distros its debian based.
btw I made MinimalX when linux live kit was working and had a cd of about 250mb with browser, fluxbox editor etc. with persistence and install

But you said you didn't care about ever updating anything.

"And yes, I'm aware that you should keep things updated/blah/blah, etc, etc. Don't care."

Either you do or you don't. Which is it?

There are several distros that will do a basic GUI installation, like Salix or Bodhi, sometimes with no software except the browser. You can even do it with the configurable installation of Fedora or CentOS!

Might be worth taking a look at SliTaz, very small distro, run from ram.

Ok, let me clarify this: I need to be able to run a current version of Firefox. I'm running into issues since I'm still using FF50 right now. Some things are broken & its getting worse.

I DON'T care about the rest of the system.

The idea is to keep using an older distro while being able to use a current browser(even tho the new "features" are almost as bad itself).

Make sense now?

It's on my list. I tried TinyCore, but I can't get the current Firefox to install. It does a lot of downloading and stuff, but the program never installs.

I did try ReactOS, but it only has Firefox 48 available. It's not very stable, so I didn't see much point in trying to install the current version of Firefox.
