LiveUSB from qemu image

Does anyone knows if I can create a bootable liveUSB (with persistence) from a qcow2 (or raw) image from qemu ? I tried to create a bootable pendrive using qemu-img convert, but the resulting pendrive wont boot (it takes like 30-40 minutes to show something, the image has 13GB).

Thanks.

Hello and welcome to LQ.

A few issues here.

A qcow2 file is two things. One it is a special type of file that contains an virtual hard drive. You can convert image to raw and in some cases use dd to flash drive and it might work.
The qcow2 file usually is a real install but could really be some live deal.

Then there is the question of what you have.

Next is the ability of a loader to read a qcow2 file. Even if you did get past the loader booting the qcow2 in some chain load and the ability to use the features of qcow2 it would be much harder than I'd try.

I'd consider using qemu-img convert to go to some supported format. Take that new file (img) to usb by using dd command. (be careful)
Not all images will fully support usb boot.

There are a number of loaders out there. They don't usually boot to files but a few can in some instances.
