just installed eroaster on gnome desktop to mandrake 8.2
I am trying to burn some mp3 files and i want them to be converted to wav. eroaster has all these options for me up front in an uncomplicated gui but it gives me and error when i try to burn. error can't detect device sg or no permissions for device error 2 it wants an image location??? I have used other programs to burn but it burns mp3 to mp3 and I can't listen to them on my way in to work. I am a newbie and am trying to negotiate my way around but still find myself lost most of the time . any and all help will be appreciated.

well just create the cd as an audio cd, and not a data cd (the other tab) and then just give a temporary directoy name where eroaster can convert the mp3s to wav files. the files get converted before burning not during, as the author regards it is too denagerous. as for the persmissions, well, either do it as root or make sure you have the right permissions on the device it self.

i did try create the cd as an audio cd not data. got the temporary directory part done in the image location. it now tells me error while trying to decode the mp3 files I have chosen. also when I ask it to detect my drive it can't and gives me an error saying must be root or have permission to /dev/sg
how do I go about giving myself permission to this folder. your help is greatly appreciated and I will continue to work on this as much as time allows

well firstly just trying being root when you run the program. after that checkl the permissions on /dev/sgwhatever ("ls -l /dev/sgwhatever) you should then make sure it is set to "rw-rw-rw-" or somthing similar, which would be done by running "chmod a+rw /dev/sg? "

I appreciate the help. went to root and tried running the program and it gives me error when trying to decode mp3. In my normal acct I went to terminal ,went root and typed in ls -l /dev/sg and it gives me lr-xr-xr-xr-x
I typed in chmod a+rw /dev/sg and hit enter but when I type in the first command again it gives me the lr-xr-xr-xr-x xr should me execute and write doesn't it?? what does lr mean? I find the interface on eroaster the one I like best but if I can't get it to work then I just may have to drop it. Thanks again for trying to help me.

all right, ok the l means it a link to another file, and it is THAT file that you need to ensure had the right permissions, i don't have an sg by itself, i have sg[0-9] check where the link is pointing to (ls -l /dev/sg) and follow that link along.

I just downloaded eroaster.
It looks so nice, but when it gets to the point of converting my mp3s to wav files so it can burn my Audio CD, it just sits there. It doesn't convert them.
So I can't burn them except as data.

Anyone know why that might happen??

please don't drag up dead threads. start a new one if you have a new question in future. run eroaster from a terminal. i found that upgrading python stopped it from converting mp3s, giving a diatribe of error messages in the terminal

the thread was on the same topic, and the user had mentioned a similar problem. ignoring the "dead thread" could have prompted people to SEND me there rather than actually helping.

I haven't touched Python since the install, it's version 2.2.1 if that means anything.

Any other ideas??

I am having troubles burning with a newly installed eroaster 2.1.0. I checked the permission on /dev/sg and /dev/sg0 and the file to which both of those point (/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target2/lun0/generic) is crw-rw-rw-. Any ideas why I'm still getting errors? Looks a little something like this:

An error occurred while decoding "BLAH"
Playing MPEG stream from "BLAH"
