can't enter text in terminal

Am relatively new to Linux. Have finally found a distro I am happy with PCLinuxos v.92. Now I know this version is pretty beta, however I have come across a problem that has stumped me. After I open a terminal and type su
I am prompted for the root password, but now I can"t enter any text. It's as if the keyboard has stop working (which it hasn't) Has any body got some clues as to whats up??

PS, pasting text doesn't work either

if I got it correct, you type su and then the terminal replies with a password promt.
Thats were you are supposed to type the password. You won't see anything until you have typed the password and press enter. Instead of showing you ****** or something else to hide the password, in the linux console, it does not show you anything. That's the default behaviour in the linux console password prompt.

passwords are not echoed to screen nor are any * either. Just type in the password and press the enter key. I believe it is for security because onlookers can not tell the password length.

Amazing!! 100% correct! I never thought to hit enter, since no text was showing in terminal.

i want to add here that when we press enter then only our data is given to the system for processing

since u have not pressed enter key.....the system was still waiting for the input..............it assumes that u are
not finished yet...so waiting for more inputs

but as soon as u give enter key it know s that u have done it and now its task start
