Plasma-desktop taking 315MB of RAM - Now that's too much, I need to get rid of it.
What alternatives are there to replace plasma-desktop?
I all I need the desktop for is the start menu. I can have KDE Browser to open icons right, or the dolphin?
Just look at it, it is taking about 100MB more than X.
BTW, I am using KDE 4.3.5 that came with Mandriva PowerPack 2010.

Plasma is pretty well integrated into KDE and I don't think you can run KDE4 without it. You might consider using a lighter weight DE like XFCE or LXDE.
