Unhappy New Mint Nadia Cinnamon 64 won't accept my login

I just upgraded to a AMD Phenom II and new 970A MSI motherboard. I want to replace my 32 bit version of Linux Mint with a 64 bit version.
I installed Mint/cinnamon 14.1 64 onto my hard drive no problem. New system loads okay but won't accept my login. DVD live version works okay. I'm thinking I may have to try 32 bit but that'll disappoint. I've gone through the login set-up twice and I can't see how that could be messed up.I'd appreciate whatever help.

Switching to 32-bit won't help you, I'm sure of that.
* Is there a message when you try to login?
* Try loging in on terminal, what error is there?
* Can you log in as root?
* Run from live-DVD, check the partitions you have so they're not full. Also check the logs from installed system.

Have veered left

Thanks for your reply. I have given up on Cinnamon. I was able to mount mint14 using the gnome desktop but I could never get cinn. to work. Anyway, I have switched to ubuntu/studio and I'm good with that. It allows me to install Cinelerra, which I couldn't get cinn14 to do.
