Question HELP! - lost my whole KDE Plasma desktop but X-Windows is working

Used PCLinuxOS Config (Drakconfig) - under network services, went through the configure time wizard. I added a few of the ntp.org servers, and when I finished clicking thru the wizard, my entire desktop instantly disappeared. Cairo dock did not. I can start the few apps I have on cairo dock, and I can apps from command line (using brave now).... other than that, my entire KDE Plasma 'windows' desktop is dead. Reboot - nothing. I see Cairo dock - and any apps I start from there or from the terminal start up and run fine - video card and driver is not the problem - get wavy windows and full effects on the windows that are open.

Dual monitors work fine. Other desktops work fine (E19 that's the one I tried).

Problem still occurs if I log in as root. Also made a test user account - problem happens there too.

Went back into PCC under manage system services - turned off the ntp daemon (ntpd) -didn't help.

replaced the ntp.conf file in /etc with a default copy - didn't help.

Again - it's just the plasma desktop. Cairo dock appears where it was on the right hand bottom screen.

Not sure what the heck got misconfigured - wish I had left well enough alone!

Any ideas would be much appreciated on how I can restore my computer.

thanks

Gregg

Have you looked in the log files for any indication of what might have caused this?
