At any random time, parts of Gnome will begin flickering and the desktop may freeze. It may also continue flickering without freezing, or it might lockup for ~5 seconds and recover. Sort of a glitchy looking flicker. This happens often enough to get in the way of productivity like school work. I put in a spare drive and installed a fresh Fedora in case I had screwed up my main install somehow, but the issue was there too. I thought it was a bug with Gnome so I filed a bug report, that didn't get any attention. Then I tried installing KDE on that spare drive with Fedora which ended up having the same issue, but this time there wasn't freezing, and the glitching looked more stretchy when it happened. Anyone know what might be happening, and how to fix it? The issue started about a week or so ago.
Are you using Wayland or Xorg also is there any logs you have?
I'm a Wayland guy. Wayland seems stable most of the time until this issue starts happening and sometimes only has minor flickering, Xorg is completely unusable as of recent with constant flickering and glitching from almost the moment I log in.
I found this on the Fedora wiki (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_t...ng_gnome-shell) but I don't know much of Wayland and got it from googling Wayland logs. Hopefully someone who knows Wayland more than me can help you.
I was getting a lot of that recently trying to stomach nouveau driver for Nvidia graphics. There are some things about the nouveau display I like but a little too unstable. Fixed by installing proprietary Nvidia drivers.
Also, this happens and is much more noticeable on the integrated Intel graphics on my system when a new web page with lots of animations is being loaded in a browser, most noticeable with Firefox.
Thanks for the update and quick reply. I'll be sure to keep an eye on this thread. Looking for the same issue. Bumped into your thread. Thanks for creating it. Looking forward for solution.
If you're interested in following the issue, you might want to look here. It turned out to probably not be Gnome related, but the issue is still open and there's some activity from time to time.

At any time the components of Gnome will start flickering, and the screen may be frozen. It can also continue to flicker but not freeze, and it could be locked for 5 seconds before it will be able to recover. It's a kind of glitchy flicker. It's a frequent occurrence that can hinder productive work like school. I installed a spare drive and then installed a fresh Fedora to check if I'd misplaced my primary install in some way, but the problem was present. I believed that it was an issue with Gnome so I submitted an official bug report but did not get much attention. When I tried to install KDE on that drive using Fedora that had the same issue, however this time, there was no any freezing and the glitches was more stretched as it occurred. Do you know what could be the cause, and how to resolve the issue? The problem began about one week ago or so.
