What does this mean? Just cause our OS is better than theirs, they have to go and screw things up.

Did you read the White Paper they posted? Unix is not for everyone. Many companies like to use both UNIX based and Microsoft OSes, and this is just helping them cope a bit better. The only people who would use this software are people who already use UNIX machines, or are switching to Windows from UNIX, either way it helps the company out and in the end, you the consumer. Is it a threat... Is Cygwin a threat? No... People don't use UNIX because it has tools like awk and sed, and has support for NFS shares... If your running it on Windows, your using Windows. And if a company is using Windows it's not going to consider switching to UNIX purely to be able to use a few UNIX like commands.

Threat? No.
Compliment? Yes, in a weird way.

(Looks like its a good thing Linux is Open Source, or MS would have 'embraced and extended' it ages ago!)

In the end, windows still sucks and Linux rules.....you want to see Linux crash, run it under Windows.

I can see the use in these tools. You see many companies don't do a full migration to windows. A lot of times companies will run UNIX-based OS's on the servers and Windows on the workstations, or when they run out licenses for their servers for Windows they'll switch to *NIX instead of paying for more licenses.

SFU is mostly based on the original GPL sources so I'd certainly hope it's more stable than Wine, given that there's no need to reimplement huge quanities of code.

Lets keep the bashing to a minimal please. First of all, we have official forums with representatives from Linspire that help out on these forums, lets be a little more considerate to them and their product we help support and promote. I don't use it myself, I've installed and tried it, but I say all power to them if they help bring Linux to the masses, making it easier to use, understand and so on for the average or below average computer user.

And for those who want to just blatantly call out that Windows sucks, well, do it elsewhere please. We have plenty of threads discussing these types of issues and are not the type that cause flamewars. Go to a Windows forum if you think it sucks cause your having problems with it, etc. We don't need for those to remind us if they hate it and think it suck, this site is designed and setup to help those with Linux problems, not bitch and moan about Windows issues. (I did not direct this last statement to the thread starter who is asking a legitimate question regarding Windows Software for Unix.. )

FWIW, Windows Services for UNIX has been around for a long time and even won "Best of Show" (no I'm not kidding) at a recent LinuxWorld.
